Winter Sleigh Ride Elopement in Breckenridge, CO

Winter in Colorado is one of the most picturesque times of year here—snow covered mountains, frozen lakes, pine boughs heavy with snow weight, and clear blue skies are only some of the features you’ll witness out here. So when Amanda and Will decided to elope the week before Christmas and wanted me to plan and photograph it, I was ecstatic. Not only did we get all of the above conditions and more, but we got to revel in the holiday magic as well. Be prepared for the most precious winter elopement day ever.

To start this magical day, the couple got ready in a stunning AirBnB in downtown Breckenridge. After traveling to a secluded lake, they shared private vows with each other surrounded by stunning snow-capped peaks. Colorado winters are truly the best, especially when you can explore a frozen lake like this one!

One thing about the locations I recommend to my couples is that you are almost guaranteed seclusion and privacy. We explored a frozen lake with stunning mountain views without having to interact with a single person, and it was absolutely magical.

Then it was time to adventure, which included a ride in a one horse open sleigh. No, I’m not kidding—it was the most precious thing. This elopement took place the week before Christmas, so they reveled in all the cozy Christmas activities. Fun fact: the horse that pulled our sleigh at Golden Horseshoe Sleigh Rides was the same horse featured in Season 9 of Love is Blind. Small world!

Finally, they ended the evening with some wine, a walk under the Christmas lights in downtown Breckenridge, and a dinner cooked by a private chef. They called their families to let them in on the good news, and shared many laughs and tears with them.

I am finally at a point where I can say… I love winter elopements. THERE I SAID IT. If you asked me 4 years ago, I would’ve laughed in your face. But I’m finally a snow-loving girl, and this winter wonderland elopement day absolutely confirmed that for me.

Here’s what they had to say about their experience with me:

The best decision my partner and I ever made was eloping. The very close second-best decision we made was hiring Emily as our photographer!!! She helped us transform our bare bones crazy idea of eloping and telling no one about it (not even our family) into the most special and memorable day — and she did it all in 2.5 months! Not only did she help us pick a breathtaking ceremony spot, she also gave us vendor ideas, activity ideas based on our interests, and was so flexible when a scheduling conflict arose. She reassured us constantly that our day could be flawless even with such a short planning timeline. She was so right.

On the day of the wedding, Emily was prompt, laid back, helped drive us to multiple locations, and made us feel completely comfortable and free to be ourselves. I cannot imagine our wedding day going any differently, and I am shocked at how I didn’t feel a single ounce of stress or anxiety the whole day. I attribute a lot of that to Emily and her presence! She is a bright light radiating positivity, infectious energy, and empathetic support.

You won’t regret hiring Emily. She has a beautiful eye in her photography of blending the human subject with our natural world. She made us feel so at ease as our third wheel for an entire day. We couldn’t be more happy with how vibrant, romantic, and creative her photos are of our special day.
