Maroon Bells Elopement in Aspen, Colorado

Where do I even begin with this amazing elopement day? Alyse & Luke had the most magical elopement day at Maroon Bells Amphitheatre in Aspen, Colorado. However, they hadn’t always been planning this day. Their plans changed a couple of times in the best way, so let me set the scene:

Last year, these two reached out to me about shooting their traditional wedding out in Kiowa, CO. However, a couple weeks after they booked me and begun planning more, they reached out to me extremely flustered with the wedding planning process, and β€œjust wish we could elope!” That’s when I came in to say, β€œwell, why don’t you?” And the rest is history!

The amazing thing about this day is that they planned it in such record timing. They decided to book a last minute slot at Maroon Bells Amphitheatre, which if you’ve ever tried to book this amphitheatre, you know it is EXTREMELY hard to come by an open spot. So, with only 6 weeks to plan their day, we hit the ground running and planned this amazing day in no time at all.

We started the day getting ready at their amazing a-frame cabin AirBNB rental in Basalt, CO, where the two of them read letters to each other back to back before seeing each other. It was such a sweet intimate moment where just the two of them got to be alone and remind themselves why they’re here today. We all made the trip out to Maroon Bells, and the beautiful mountain views did not disappoint!

How to Elope at Maroon Bells

Maroon Bells may be one of the best places to elope in Colorado. The peaks, wildflowers, lakes, waterfalls, and aspen groves make this place truly one of a kind. If you’re interested in eloping at Maroon Bells, here’s a step by step on how to do it!

  1. WITH 10+ GUESTS: Be flexible in your date selection. If you have a party of 10 or more people, then you will need to book the Maroon Bells Amphitheatre which can be done HERE. Dates are released 1 year to the day in advance. They release every day at 8am MT for the date next year (ex: at 8am MT on June 30th, 2022, booking for June 30th, 2023 opens). There is only one wedding allowed per day, so make sure to get on early, refresh at 8am and go for it!

  2. WITH 9 OR LESS GUESTS: If you’re looking to do something a bit more intimate without guests or with only a few people (9 or less), you may want to hike out to some more private locations instead. There are some absolutely stunning locations that are less than 4 miles total, and will give you ultimate privacy away from the crowds, especially at sunrise. The wilderness permits for those locations are free, but just require you to sign the trail log so rangers know where you are in case of emergency. Give yourself some time to plan you accommodations when planning this route, but there is no reservation system in place, so you have your choice of dates. I always recommend dates/times that are not popular, like weekdays at sunrise, so that you have to whole place to yourself.
